Sharing your process, thoughts, and feelings around these topics and more is a valuable part of any cultural competency learning, and talking with others is highly encouraged. If you are moving through this self-paced course at the same time as someone you know, the Self-Reflection Tool is a great catalyst for conversation. If you are taking this solo, you can always share your learning with another more informally, and ask them for their thoughts as well.

Suggestions might be an in-school colleague, a friend who is a teacher, a friend who is not a teacher, a spouse, or even a discussion over a social media professional learning community. There are a variety of ways to approach this discussion aspect; make it your own, in the way that will work best for you!

A note about discussions -- here are suggestions for all participants. This helps to set a positive, open-minded, and kind tone for everyone.

  • Be present and remain engaged
  • Share your story, your truth
  • Practice being curious
  • Lean into any discomfort
  • Respect others’ perspectives and experiences
  • Keep the comments of others private

Thank you!
